Prospera celebrates 20 years as a Caring Company

Surrey, BC – Prospera Credit Union has once again been certified as a Caring Company by Imagine Canada in recognition of our community investments in 2023.

Last year, Prospera donated more than $1 million to charitable organizations and community partners across BC. This includes more than $480,000 in grants from the Prospera Foundation to eight local charities, including Special Olympics BC and Mamas for Mamas (Kelowna). Another $500,000 was distributed through corporate donations and sponsorships, supporting worthy causes and charitable organizations such as Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, Archway Community Services and Accelerate Okanagan.

“This milestone marks 20 years of Caring Company Certification for Prospera!” says Niki Jelstad, Director, Marketing and Community Engagement. “Local Good is at the heart of our culture and values, and this certification highlights our continued commitment to supporting our communities over the last two decades.”

Founded in 1988, the Caring Company Certification awards an Imagine Canada Trustmark to companies that give back at least one per cent of pre-tax profits to their local communities. Community investment is recognized across four categories: cash donations, paid volunteerism, in-kind contributions and management costs.

Working for an organization committed to community investments isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s good for attracting and engaging great team members. Based on a study by Imagine Canada, 54 per cent of people who work at Caring Companies reported that their current employer’s reputation for charitable work in the community influenced them “a lot” before accepting their current job, compared to only 13 per cent of other respondents.
