Tax Slip Information: Making Your Tax Filing Seamless

    If you've earned interest on your investments, congratulations! To help you complete your tax filing accurately, here’s what to expect when it comes to receiving your tax slips (T5 or NR4) each year.

    For each investment product with Prospera that earned $20 or more in interest during the previous calendar year, you’ll receive a personalized T5 slip. This slip provides details on the interest income you earned, which you’ll need when preparing your tax return.

    When to expect your tax slips in the mail

    We begin mailing tax slips in mid-February each year, and you can expect to receive all your slips by the end of February. These slips will arrive individually, one for each qualifying investment product, ensuring that all your information is accurate and specific to each account.

    Be sure to keep these slips safe when they arrive so that you’re fully prepared come tax season. If you have any questions or if a slip hasn’t arrived by early March, please contact our Member Service Centre at 1 888 440 4480 and we’ll be happy to assist you.

    Registered for eStatements? Access your tax slips online

    If you’re registered for eStatements, meaning you wish to receive monthly account statements electronically, you’ll also receive your tax slips electronically in your online banking (unless you have requested to have them delivered to you by mail). Simply check the e-documents section by the end of February for convenient access—no paper copies to keep track of or wait for in the mail!

    To access your e-documents, follow these steps below: 
    1. Signing into online banking 
    2. Click on ‘My Accounts’. 
    3. Click ‘View e-Documents'.

    Prefer to receive your tax slips by mail? No problem! Just contact our Member Service Centre at 1 888 440 4480 to request paper copies, and we’ll update your preference for future tax slips.

    Prospera has elected to provide tax slips per product, applicable only to those products that earned more than $20 in taxable income in the last calendar year. Depending on how many products you may have and how much interest each one earned in the last calendar year, you may receive zero, one or multiple tax slips.
    Members registered for eStatements can expect to receive their tax slip(s) in online banking as an eDocument. Members who are not registered for eStatements will receive a paper copy of their tax slip(s) in the mail. All members with access to online banking, regardless, if you’re registered for eStatements or not, can access their tax slip(s) under eDocuments in online banking. 

    If you are to receive a tax slip, did not receive a physical copy, and can’t access it in online banking, you can call our Member Service Centre by dialing 1 888 440 4480 and we’ll be happy to assist you in retrieving your tax slip(s).  

    Please note: If you are not the primary account holder of the product in reference, you won’t receive a physical or electronic tax slip.
    Of course. If you’re unable to print your online PDF, we’ll gladly provide a printed copy upon request. You can make a request by contacting our Member Service Centre at 1 888 440 4480 or visiting your nearest branch.
    Tax slips will only be delivered (via mail or eDocument in online banking) to the primary account holder of the product.  They won’t be mailed or uploaded as an eDocument for the joint to avoid duplicate filing of the same tax slip. The tax slip for any joint product will be delivered to the primary account holder’s address and include both the primary and joint’s name on the slip. In this case, the primary and joint account holders share the responsibility of determining who will file the tax slip for their income taxes.
    Members will receive a tax slip for each product they held that earned $20 or more in interest in the last calendar year. The product number associated with the interest earned will be displayed in box 29, the “Recipient account,” on your tax slip.   

    When accessing e-Documents online, the account description will be displayed in the Comments field.
    Junior members with products that accumulated $20 in interest or more will receive their tax slip(s) in the mail. Their slip(s) will be mailed to the junior members address and include the joint’s name. Any junior member with access to online banking will be also able to access the electronic copy of their tax slip through the eDocuments tab. The tax slip will only upload to the junior member’s eDocuments in online banking and not the joint.
    Yes. We can provide you with a letter detailing the amounts from each of your tax slips, along with the total interest earned. You can visit your nearest branch or dial 1 888 440 4480 and our Member Service Centre will be happy to assist you with this request.
